I majored in electrical engineering, and I am currently in my last year. Over time, I beleive I like pure Computer Sciences more, specifically distributed systems. However, this interest is newfound based on a few courses I took at the end of my junior year. Since I am a rising senior, I want to fix a path so I can dedicate focused effort. I am thinking of applying to Computer Science master's but I might need to switch my specialty later on, depending on how my interest pans out. Is this the right line of thinking?

If the GRE is not required, what difference does it make to still go ahead and take it? What would be the impact of submitting an average GRE score even if it is not required?

How should an applicant go about deciding between a Master’s v/s PhD program? Two competing interests are often guaranteed funding through PhD versus the shorter time commitment of a Master’s program. Furthermore, what does “Mastering out” entail from an academic perspective since many students are increasingly seeking PhD programs primarily for funding and choosing to quit their PhDs after getting a Master’s degree.
Should I apply right now if I am unsure about my chosen field?
